How much does a man and van cost?
Our 1-Man rate is £49 per hour. 2-Man is £79 per hour. Both have a two-hour minimum, so the lowest possible spend is £98. Mileage on longer runs is quoted on the call. The price we give you is the price you pay — no surprises.
Why is your hourly rate higher than some competitors?
Two reasons. First, every job goes on a tail-lift Luton van, not a Transit panel van — our load capacity is roughly 1.7× a Transit, which means one trip instead of two. Second, the tail lift means heavy items go up by lift, not by shoulder. We load faster, so you're billed for fewer hours overall. £49/hr × 2 hours often comes in cheaper than £39/hr × 4 hours.
What size is the van?
Mercedes Sprinter Luton body — about 600 cubic feet of load space. Roughly the contents of a 1-bed flat in one trip. About 1.7× the capacity of a standard Transit panel van.
Do you have a tail lift?
Yes — every man and van booking goes on a tail-lift Luton, no exceptions. The lift takes heavy items (washing machines, fridges, American-style fridges, sofas) up to the van bed without shoulder-lifting. Lower damage risk, faster loading.
What's the difference between 1-Man and 2-Man?
1-Man at £49/hr means the driver loads, drives, and helps lift — but you're expected to be the second pair of hands. 2-Man at £79/hr means two of us do all the lifting; you don't have to help. If you're moving a sofa or anything heavy through stairs, 2-Man is the right call.
Is there a minimum charge?
Two hours, regardless of job size. So £98 minimum on 1-Man, £158 minimum on 2-Man. Even a quick single-item collection is two hours billed. Most jobs run longer than that anyway.
Can you do same-day?
Yes — same day is available with no surcharge. Most same-day bookings happen if you call before 11am. Booking before 9am for same-morning slots is safest. Call us, don't email — form replies aren't real-time.
Do you charge for mileage?
On Leicester city and immediate suburbs, mileage is included. For longer runs (cross-county, out-of-county) we quote mileage on the call. Tell us pickup and drop-off and we'll be straight with you.
Are you insured?
Yes. Goods-in-transit cover up to £10,000 by default, public liability £5 million. Both apply to man and van jobs in full.
Do I need to help with a 1-Man booking?
Yes — the 1-Man rate is built around you (or a friend or family member) being the second pair of hands. The driver helps lift and does the carrying-and-loading sequence, but two-person items need two people. If you can't help, book 2-Man instead.
Can you take a piano or treadmill?
No — pianos and heavy gym equipment need specialist movers with proper trolleys, harnesses, and insurance designed for the risk. We can recommend specialists in Leicester.
What if my job runs over 2 hours?
Billed by the hour after the 2-hour minimum, in 30-minute increments. We tell you when we hit the 2-hour mark and let you decide whether to continue. No surprises on the final bill.
